Thomas Cup results:Malaysia in Finals beating India 3-0

Malaysia advanced to the Thomas Cup Finals after beating India 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the qualifiers in Macau today.



Malaysia’s winning point was delivered by former All England champion Hafiz Hashim, who beat P. Kashyap 21-17, 18- 21-18, 21-11 in 63 minutes.
Team captain Lee Chong Wei had given Malaysia a winning  start, albeit after dropping a game, when he beat Ajay  Jayaram 21-12, 17-21, 21-8 in 47 minutes.
Doubles Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong then stretched Malaysia’s lead when they beat Rupesh Kumar-Sanave Thomas 21-14, 23-21, which included having to come from 16-20 behind to win the second game.
Malaysia play Japan in the semi-finals next but Chong Wei  and Kien Keat-Boon Heong are expected to be rested.
Malaysia’s Uber Cup hopes, however, are hanging by a  thread when they were beaten 3-0 by Thailand.
Victory was always going to be hard after the format of play saw the three singles contested first.
Tee Jing Yi suffered a 21-8, 21-7 thrashing at the hands of  Ratchanok Inthanon and Porntip Buranaprasertsuk made it  2-0 after beating Lydia Cheah 21-19, 21-13.
Yang Li Lian, the Malaysian star in the win over India on Wednesday, found Sapsiree Taerattanachai too tough as the Thai won 21-12, 21-10 to seal the tie.
Malaysia will now have to aim to advance through the playoff which also includes Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore.
