Kuala Lumpu: A Universiti Sains Malaysia student who was
arrested in Nibong Tebal on Sunday for allegedly making atreat against the
prime minister was released on police bail yesterday.
Inspector- General
of police Tan Sri Ismail said the 23-year old student, who is doing his Master
in civil engineering at USM was interrogated for several hours about the
alleged threat.
The student did
not posses the capability to carry out his threat of putting a bomb in the
helicopter that will fly the prime minister for a visit to the campus next
week.
Ismail said police
granted him bail as he had to sit for an examination yesterday. The student had
allegedly made his threat at his blog post.
Ismail said he was
disappointed with what the student did. In George town, USM said it would leave
it to the police to investigate the student’s threat to the prime minister.
Vice-chancellor
Professor Datuk Dr Omar Osman said USM was prepared to work with the police,
including to act against the student. We also want the advice all student to be
careful with their postings on social media. They should be aware of the
implications, especially if it involved security threats, he said in his
statement.
